The project consisted of widening taxiway intersections in anticipation of the next generation of bigger and wider airplanes coming in early 2007. Work was limited to the hours between midnight and 6 a.m. After every shift, eight-ton steel plates were used to cover the excavated area. The plates were put in place by crane and were designed to withstand the weight of a passing 747 aircraft. The concrete poured every night was tested on site for strength prior to opening the areas to traffic.
