Sand Canyon Avenue Project

Location: City of IrvineValue: $ 26 million

This was a major project to widen 2.5 miles of Sand Canyon Avenue from two lanes to a divided four-lane roadway with both bike lanes and shoulders. It also involved realigning the Irvine Blvd. and Sand Canyon Avenue intersection. All improvements were to be made on a strict schedule while maintaining traffic and services on Sand Canyon Avenue. The project included underground improvements of an 18" sewer mainline at a depth of 22 feet. We installed reinforced concrete storm drain pipe from 72" to 18" in diameter, along with a 48" (CML&C) domestic water mainline, 16" and 12" domestic water systems, reclaimed water systems, and dry utility improvements for power and communications. Surface improvements included curb and gutter, median curbs, sidewalk, asphalt and ARHM pavements. These improvements entailed using recycled base material, removing existing roadway in the realignment area, soil over- excavation and re-compaction, both new and modified traffic signal improvements and all new signing and roadway striping.
