The general scope of work included demolition and construction of a modern backlands facilities within a one-year period and included: removal of existing structures, concrete and asphalt pavements; abandoning utilities and relocating them; excavating and balancing the site including handling potentially hazardous materials; construction of water, storm drains and installation of special Storm Water Pollution Prevention vaults to capture oil and grease runoff (a first for the Port of Los Angeles and for Sully-Miller); installing electrical and high voltage including the first Alternate Marine Power (AMP), also known as Cold Ironing Project; grading and placement of CMB and AC paving; construction of structures, a bridge, surface improvements, buildings and other utilities such as gas and fiber optic networks.
